CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter) is the largest emergency homeless shelter in the Richmond metropolitan area. With the assistance of more than 170 congregations, more than 1,300 men, women and children are provided shelter, food and guidance each year. CARITAS provides year-round evening shelter for single men and women and 24-hour shelter for families. Case management is a required component in the family program. First Presbyterian hosts CARITAS twice a year, usually once in the spring and once in December. One week is for women and children. For more information, contact Drake Watson at jdwatson123@comcast.net or David Williams at dwilliams204@comcast.net.

FPC will be hosting CARITAS during the week of April 12-18, 2008. Volunteers will be needed to: 1) stay overnight (teams of two), 2) buy food and other supplies, 3) prepare and serve meals, 4) visit with guests and help with children's homework, 5) set up the first day and take down the last day, and 6) wash guests' laundry. Please register to volunteer on the sign-up sheets in the Commons or contact Drake Watson jdwatson123@comcast.net or David Williams at dwilliams204@comcast.net.
