How To Join
Those interested in joining FPC may do so by baptism, transfer from another church, or reaffirmation of faith. The first step toward membership is attendance at a one-hour Newcomers Class to become acquainted with FPC and its programs, including worship, Sunday School, youth activities, local and international outreach programs, preschool, and more. This class is held during the summer at 10:00 am on the first Sunday of each month and provides an opportunity for prospective members to ask questions about FPC and membership.
On the second or fourth Sunday, following the 11:00 am service, those wishing to join meet for 20 minutes or so in the church parlor with representatives of the Session. Prospective members are asked to share a bit about themselves, and how they wish to join. We take pictures of new members and add them to our rolls at this time.
The following Sunday, or a Sunday soon thereafter, new members are introduced to the congregation during the 11:00 am worship service. At that time, new members are either baptized or asked to affirm (or reaffirm) their faith by responding to the "vows of church membership." Immediately following the service, we welcome new members at the coffee hour, giving the congregation a chance to meet them personally.
If requested, a "shepherd" may be assigned to new members to help in the assimilation process. Shepherds will answer questions and introduce new members to classes and activities of interest to them.
