Introduction
First Presbyterian Church is located in the near west end of the City of Richmond at the corner of Locke Lane and Cary Street Road. We're about one mile west of Carytown and about two miles east of the Huguenot Bridge. We are a congregation of about 1500 members with average worship attendance of 400-500 most Sundays.
Childcare
We have a fully staffed nursery for infants through age 3 from 8:15 am until 12:15 pm each Sunday. (Three-year-olds attend Sunday School from 9:30 – 10:30 am.) All children are registered by their parents outside room 106 and given nametags. The nurseries are located in rooms 105 (infants) and 106 (wobblers).
Handicapped Access
Handicapped parking is available along Lock Lane and in our parking lot. Both the Cary Street and
parking lot entrances are wheelchair accessible. Our building, which has an elevator, is entirely
navigable by wheelchair. Wheelchair seating is available in the sanctuary.
Hearing Assistance
Personal amplification devices are available in the sanctuary for the hard-of-hearing. Please see an
usher for assistance.
Parking
We have a large parking lot accessible from Lock Lane and there is plenty of nearby on-street parking. Several "Sunday Morning Visitor Parking" spaces may be found along Lock Lane, near the porte cochere entrance.
Sunday School
Sunday School classes for all ages are offered each Sunday at 9:30 am, September through June. For a list
of current offerings, click here.
Worship Services
During the months of September through June, our 8:30 am and 11:00 am traditional services are held in the sanctuary. Our “Open Door” contemporary service takes place in the recreation room at 11:00 am. During the summer, our “Open Door” contemporary service takes place in the recreation room at 9:00 am and our traditional service is held in the sanctuary at 11:00 am.
An usher will greet you at the sanctuary door, give you an order of worship, and help you find a seat. The bulletin (available in large print, if needed) will help you find the page numbers for hymns and scripture readings. The pastor also helps guide the congregation through each step of the service, including praise, prayer, scripture readings and sermon.
During worship, there is a Time for Children when the pastor speaks to the young children at the front of the sanctuary. Children age 4 through grade 2 may then attend Children’s Church in room 208 with Linda Paolino, our Children’s Church Coordinator, and parent volunteers. Parents should pick up their children there immediately after the worship service. Worship notebooks with quiet activities are also available from the ushers for children to use at their seats during worship.
Everyone is invited to a coffee hour in the fellowship hall at 10:30 am after Sunday School, and again following the 11:00 am services each week.
