Anne Lamott says the two best prayers she knows are: "Help me, help me, help me" and "Thank you, thank you, thank you." We pray most ardently when we need help, when things are beyond our control. We pray fervently when we are so grateful for something good happening. I would add to Anne Lamott’s list one more: Why, God, why, God, why God?  These are all valid prayers. These are all prayers that God listens to. God wants to be in relationship with us and we have this relationship, in part, through our prayer life. In the church, we are invited to pray not just for ourselves, but for one another and for the world.
