Mission Outreach Grants
Statement of Purpose - First Presbyterian Church is dedicated to providing a mission outreach program to share with the Richmond community some of the financial blessings that God has bestowed upon us.
The emphasis of the FPC mission outreach program is assistance to organizations that help meet the compassionate duties of a Christian as reflected in Matthew 25:35-36 -- for example, to feed the hungry, assist the stranger, clothe the needy, care for the sick and minister to prisoners. In determining how best to meet the needs of the Richmond community, the Mission Outreach Committee has historically categorized its recipient organizations into the following:
- elderly
- homeless
- medical
- religious
- youth
The Committee recognizes that other special needs may exist that may not fall into one of these categories, but may be meritorious and worthy of funding (or meet a particular FPC commitment).
In evaluating specific programs, the Mission Outreach Committee has typically sought positive responses to the following questions:
- Does the program fulfill a compelling human need within one of the categories set forth above? Where possible, does it seek to encourage recipients to take responsibility for their lives? "Bricks and mortar" capital campaigns are disfavored.
- Does the program focus on the Richmond community?
- Will FPC's contribution to the program have a significant and meaningful impact on the needs and budget of that program?
- Will FPC's contribution impact a significant number of recipients?
- Is the organization Christian or secular?
- Are FPC congregants involved with the organization?
- Will FPC's grant used for operating expenses?
Message to Applicants: The Mission Outreach Committee will award funding to community agencies for projects in the following general areas: the elderly, the homeless, medical, religious, and youth needs. Please read our statement of purpose before going further.
Directions: All applicant agencies must answer the questions and attach supplemental exhibits as requested on the Application Form for review by the Mission Outreach Committee. Agency applications received by April 1, 2008 will be reviewed by the Mission Outreach Committee during the period April 1 - June 30, 2008. Award letters will be mailed before July 10, 2008.
