October 6 - Keeping Our Faith When Loved Ones are in Harm’s Way
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to send a loved one off to war and not have the support of the military community because there is no base in your town? Come hear how Blue Star Families of Richmond has filled the void for support of active-duty military families. Paige Bartholomew, past president, and Eileen Osmolski, a Gold Star Mom who lost her son in Iraq, will be our speakers.
October 13 - Remember the Past
The Virginia Holocaust Museum serves as one of Richmond’s cultural and educational jewels. Jay Ipson, Museum Director and Founder, will recount the story of his family’s escape and liberation from Lithuania, including six months they spent living in a tunnel. The museum’s mission, “Teaching Tolerance through Education” encapsulates its goal to combat intolerance, anti-Semitism, racism, prejudice, fear and hatred with knowledge, understanding, compassion and acceptance. Consider bringing your teen-agers to this program for a survivor’s tale of the Holocaust.
October 20 - Getting Lives Back on Track
What happens when low-income people lose their driving privileges? Often times they lose their jobs as well, because of lack of public transportation or because the jobs require driving. It’s a “Catch-22” since they can’t pay their fines without jobs. Learn how FPC member Randy Rollins has applied his experience as a lawyer and a caring heart to develop the innovative program, Drive to Work, that works for those in need.
October 27 - God, Groceries and Richmond
Ukrop’s has been a household word in Richmond for many years, and the Ukrop family has been known for its gifts to and leadership in Richmond. As a Christian and business leader in the community, Bobby Ukrop will reflect upon some of the obstacles he faced in helping build his family’s company as well as Richmond’s challenges and what and be done to enhance the quality of life in the greater Richmond region.
More inspirational programs coming in November . . . STAY TUNED!!
We will not be able to offer regular Wednesday night suppers. We know that this is a significant change and will be a loss to many of us. The suppers have lost several thousand dollars for the last two years, and our church budget has been flat for two years. Therefore, we regret that we cannot to continue to subsidize these meals.
