Children's Ministry

Sunday School will be offered from 9:30-10:30 from September 12, 2010-May 22, 2011. For the 2010-2011 Sunday School year, we are offering the following:

  • Preschool Class, ages 3-5, use the Wee Believe curriculum. This weekly program builds foundations to help young children learn about God's love for them. The children will hear the great stories of scripture from both the Old and New Testaments. The objective is that the children will grow closer to God and experience what it means to be part of God's family. Room 103.

  • Grades K-3 Classes use our Faith Adventures workshop rotation curriculum. The same Bible story is taught in different multi-media workshops for four weeks, with the children rotating to a different one each Sunday.  Children will experience the Bible story, using storytelling/drama, art, media and games.  Faith Adventures allows for the reinforcing repetition of the story in multiple active formats as well as for the different learning styles of our children.  Each Sunday morning, all students in Grades K-3 meet together in Room 206 for opening activities and music. The 2010-2011 rotations include the following:
    • September 12-October 3 Abraham, Sarah and Isaac
    • October 10-October 31 Ruth
    • November 7-28 Call of Samuel
    • December 5-19 Advent: The Birth of Jesus

Baptisms

When we baptize a child, the parents confess their faith in Jesus Christ and they commit themselves to raise their child to love and serve the Lord. The baptism of an infant reminds us that the love of God is for us from the day we are born. The congregation also stands with the parents to commit themselves to make the child welcome in the family of faith.

Members of First Presbyterian Church may sign up for a baptism class for parents, and then schedule a baptism for a child, by contacting Leigh Perry at lperry@fpcrichmond.org or 358-2383 or by speaking to one of the pastors.

The next class is Sunday, August 22, from 3:00-5:30 pm in Room 205; childcare is available if requested in advance. The two following classes are scheduled for Sunday, November 14, 2010, and Sunday, February 13, 2011.
