New This Winter!

First Presbyterian Training Team

Join the FPC Training Team for "Faith, Fellowship and Fitness"! All levels of runners and walkers are welcome. Bring friends and family! Some of us will be preparing for the Monument Avenue 10K on March 31, 2012, while others will just be having fun and getting fit.

We meet on consecutive Saturdays at 7:45 am for a short devotional, then a training session. Many of our wonderful coaches from 2011 will be back again this season to provide tips and encouragement to the team members.

Contact Vicki Warren with questions.

Lenten Study Plus--Fruitful Living

With Dr. Charles Summers Begins February 14

How do we cultivate a life that is abundant, fruitful, purposeful and deep? How do I grow closer to God and live the fruitful, flourishing life of a follower of Jesus? What are the commitments, risks and practices that open me to God’s transforming grace?

Our Lenten study doesn’t have “self-improvement,” “try harder” or “strive more” lessons aimed at achieving God’s blessing. Rather, it is an encounter with the fundamental Christian activities that open us more fully to the grace of God.

We will use the book Five Practices of Fruitful Living by Robert Schnase. It relies on the experiences of “ordinary people who have been extraordinarily shaped by their relationship with God.” Like growing anything, growing in our relationship with God is not obstacle-free, totally consistent or predictable. But there are ways of cultivating the soil of lives so that our souls grow.

Acts of Faith--America's Largest Faith-Inspired Theatre Festival

Join FPC friends to see three plays together from the festival offerings

From January 13-March 18, twenty different congregations (including First Presbyterian) will partner with 18 theatres to present a selection of plays about how faith and values shape our public and private life. See www.theactsoffaith.org for the complete list of plays and dates.

You may join FPC members to see three of these plays, or you may see the productions on your own. The FPC group play nights are planned with dinner beforehand. Group tickets will be purchased in advance--please sign up now on the bulletin board across from the chapel and put your check in the designated envelope.

Let's Go Groups

Let’s Go Groups are relaxed, fun activities designed for getting to know people from our congregation and for including our friends and neighbors.  Some activities will be one-time events and others will be on-going.

Does the winter weather have you in a funk? Now that the holidays are over, are you ready to reconnect with friends? Want to lace up those fancy shoes and have some fun at the bowling alley? Maybe a spring-time hike? Wine-tasting?

All of these ideas have come our way since the first Let's Go events were held this fall; and now we are looking for fun loving, enthusiastic folks to helporganize some activities for the spring.

If you might be interested in coordinating just ONE fun fellowship outing or have ideas for events, please contact the Let's Go team! You can call or e-mail Elizabeth Betz to share your ideas and leadership talents.
