The Presbyterian Church in the City of Richmond was organized on June 18, 1812 with fourteen members and two ruling elders. Dr. John Holt Rice was installed as its first pastor on October 19 of that year in the new church building on the south side of Main Street, between 27th and 28th Streets.
In 1816 its name was changed to First Presbyterian Church, and it moved to a new site on the south side of Main Street, between 17th and 18th Streets.
2000-2006
| 2001 | Pastor Nominating Committee completes its task and Dr. Charles A. Summers is called as Head Pastor and Chief of Staff. Dr. Donn K. Langfitt is honored for his nineteen months as Interim Pastor. The Presbytery of the James installs Dr. Charles A. Summers, February 25. Church sponsors resettlement of family from Afganistan to Richmond. Terry L. Alexander arrives as Associate Pastor in October. |

| 2005 | FPC and four other Presbyterian churches build a Habitat for Humanity house. Medical Mission Trip to Bluefields, Nicaragua treats 1,100+ clients. Youth Mission Trip to Miguel Alemán, Mexico builds three houses, pours two roofs, digs and fills two foundations. Mission Trip to the Gulf helps clear debris, staff the volunteer office and distribution center, cook & serve food. |
